NASA engineers thought female astronauts needed makeup in space
When women joined the shuttle astronaut corps in 1978, engineers at NASA decided that women astronauts would want makeup – so they designed a makeup kit. The prototype kit, which was never used in space, includes compartments for eyeliner, mascara, eye shadow, eye make-up remover, blush, and lip gloss.
